Glam, Grit & Glory
Frankie Muriel was born to be a rock star. Growing up watching his Latin percussionist father’s late-night jam sessions, Frankie’s musical instincts emerged early. By his teens, he was captivated by rock icons like David Lee Roth and Prince, blending their swagger, funk, and flair with his own style and energy. With platinum hair, sapphire eyes, and an electrifying stage presence, he became a hometown legend in St. Louis with his band, Broken Toyz.
In the late '80s, Frankie’s band KINGOFTHEHILL signed to a major label, and their debut single “I Do U” hit MTV, with “If I Say” charting in the Billboard Top 100. For a time, Frankie lived his rock-and-roll dream, but when grunge swept through in the early '90s, his band disbanded, and Frankie returned to St. Louis. He soon rebounded, establishing Dr. Zhivegas. This disco-rock band dominated the live music scene for the next 30 years, playing to fans across the world.
Now, with his debut solo album I’m Still Standing, Frankie opens up like never before. The album, a reflection of love, resilience, nostalgia, and loss, includes tracks like the soaring rocking gospel ballad “Sweet Surrender,” the personal tribute to his mother “Home,” and a cover of Terence Trent D’Arby’s “Let Her Down Easy.” Frankie returns to his glam-metal past in a reworking of “If I Say” and the heartfelt instant classic “Those Were the Nights.” The gospel-rock-n-soul title track “I’m Still Standing” is Frankie’s personal anthem of perseverance and a reminder of the power of living out one’s dreams.
Frankie Muriel is not just a rock survivor—he’s an artist at the height of his craft.
